End of year late filing concession scrapped

HMRC haannounced that for payroll year end P35 and P14 returns for 2010/11 it will charge a penalty if these are not received by 19th May. Since 1995HMRC haoperated extra statutory concession B46 that allows for a further seven days after 19th May before penalties for late filing are charged. The concession was designed to allow for postal delays, but as the vast majority of employers must now file online it is no longer necessary.

It had been expected that HMRC would take this approach but I know from my days as a payroll manger that those extra seven days were very welcome if it all went pear-shaped and are often vital for payroll bureaux who struggle to get some clients to provide the payroll data that they need. Will it change your year-end timetable?

P.SOf course the additional penalties for those who can’t get ready for 19th will help the Treasury cofferswon’t they ?!
