Abstract Excel spreadsheets remain the preferred budgeting, forecasting and planning tool for many organizations. With spreadsheets lacking any real data control, not providing real-time financial information and proving very cumbersome and time-consuming to manage, the question remains as to why finance professionals aren't ditching their spreadsheets for more sophisticated budgeting and forecasting software solutions? This article examines this question and discusses the importance of finding an alternative to spreadsheets.
